Audi Tire Size Calculator
Pick your Audi model and a replacement size to get an instant quattro tolerance verdict — Torsen, ultra, or e-tron — plus the resulting speedometer error.
Quick Answer
Quattro AWD tolerance depends on your system: Torsen (A4, A6, Q7, Q8) — safe at ≤1.5% OD change. quattro ultra (Q3, Q5) — safe at ≤2%. Electric quattro (e-tron EVs) — ≤3%. A Q5 S line going from stock 235/55R19 to 245/45R20 changes OD by just +0.5% — safe for all quattro variants. EV models also require verifying load index minimum.
| Model | Stock → New Size | OD Δ% | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q5 S line (FY) | 235/55R19 → 245/45R20 | +0.5% | Safe |
| A6 C8 base | 225/55R17 → 235/45R18 | +0.1% | Safe |
| Q8 e-tron (EV) | 255/55R19 → 265/45R21 | +2.1% | Caution |
| RS6 Avant C8 | 285/40R22 → 285/35R22 | −1.1% | Caution |
Torsen quattro: ≤1.5% OD change. quattro ultra: ≤2%. Electric quattro (e-tron): ≤3%.
How to Use This Calculator
- 1Choose your Audi model. Select your model from the OEM lookup tab — A3 through RS6 Avant and Q8 e-tron. The calculator fills in your factory tire size and minimum load index automatically.
- 2Pick your trim package. Different trim levels leave the factory on different wheel packages. Choose base, S line, sport, or RS to pre-populate the stock size.
- 3Enter the replacement size. Type the new tire size you are considering in the format 235/55R19 — width/aspect ratio, then R for radial, then rim diameter.
- 4Add load index (EV models). If you are replacing tires on a Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, Q8 e-tron, or e-tron GT, enter both load indexes to check the minimum load rating.
- 5Read your results. The calculator returns a quattro AWD verdict, speedometer error, ground clearance delta, and a full spec comparison with visual diagram.
Audi quattro Tire Sizing — AWD Variant Guide
Three quattro variants have three different tolerances. Torsen quattro (mechanical center diff) is most sensitive at ≤1.5%. quattro ultra (electro-hydraulic rear clutch) tolerates up to 2%. Electric quattro (separate motors, no mechanical link) is most tolerant at up to 3%.
EV models require higher load index tires. The Q8 e-tron weighs ~400 kg more than the combustion Q8. OEM tires carry load index 109 (1,030 kg per tire). Fitting a same-size tire with lower load index puts the tire out of spec for the vehicle's GVWR.
Plus-sizing done right: keep diameter change under 0.5%. The textbook Audi plus-one (A4: 225/50R17 → 235/45R18) changes diameter by just 0.1% — invisible to the quattro system and ADAS. Going beyond +1% on Torsen quattro requires all four tires to be changed simultaneously.
TPMS reset is always needed after a tire change. Re-store tire pressures in the MMI (Vehicle → Settings → Tire Pressure Monitoring → Store) with all four tires at the door jamb pressure, not the tire sidewall maximum.
